Shoulder pain is commonly felt on the front and side of the shoulder, but may also be felt down the arm and even into the forearm. There are many different types and causes of shoulder pain; the most common type of shoulder pain treated by Physical Healthcare at Preston is supraspinatus tendinitis.
Supraspinatus tendinitis an injury to the tendon in the supraspinatus muscle. This muscle stabilises your shoulder joint. The cause of this injury is many and complex. In some people, their work involves many repetitive and heavy use of their shoulder. In others, their posture may result in the tendon being exposed to increased stresses. There may also be some weakness and flexibility issues in the muscle which predisposes injury. However, whether it’s any of the above issues, your physiotherapist at Physical Healthcare at Preston will be able to accurately assess and effectively treat the problem!
Treatment of this form of injury is also complex. Treatments must be targeted at all the contributing factors. Without a complete assessment, your treatment may be incomplete and your prospect of rehabilitation will be poor. Your physiotherapist at Physical Healthcare at Preston will minimise time spent in rehabilitation and prevent this problem from happening again in the future!
Your physiotherapist will provide hands on therapy, electro therapy. On top of these, postural and ergonomic advice may also be given if needed. Taping, dry needling and many other forms of treatments may also be indicated. There is no recipe for treatment of supraspinatus tendinopathy.
