Manual Therapy: A Hands-On Approach

Physical Healthcare offers a variety of services to assist our clients with their pain and rehabilitation. Deeply integrated within our philosophy and practice is the utilisation of a hands-on approach or manual therapy. In most instances, our physiotherapists will incorporate manual therapy within a multi-modal treatment package such as exercise, lifestyle advice, electrotherapy and dry needling to enhance recovery.

What is manual therapy?

Manual therapy is an umbrella term used to describe any hands-on techniques utilised by qualified physiotherapists. With an extensive understanding of the body’s biomechanics and anatomy, these techniques are used to help manage joint stiffness, pain, correct movement patterns, swelling and muscle tension. Some examples of the techniques utilised by our therapists include:

  • Soft tissue and deep tissue massage
  • Joint mobilisations
  • Joint manipulations
  • Passive stretching
  • Trigger point release
  • Traction

Our therapists will perform a comprehensive physical assessment prior to the manual therapy treatment. This is to ensure that the most safe and effective manual therapy techniques are being used.
